Ford / Lincoln / Mercury / Mazda Keys Programming for PATS (Passive Anti-Theft System)

What is PATS?

Passive Anti-Theft Systems (PATS), also called Ford Securilock, is a vehicle security feature introduced on 1996 and later Ford vehicles. When replacing the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) on a vehicle with PATS, a parameter reset or relearn procedure must be completed, and all keys must be programmed with the updated key codes for the vehicle to start.

Why purchase programmed keys with the Powertrain Control Module (PCM)?

When purchasing programmed keys specifically for your vehicle, you avoid the high reprogramming cost of the dealership and locksmith. Just simply take the keys to your local hardware store and have them cut to your original key. It's that easy!

How do I install the PCM with the programmed keys?

  1. Take new keys to any hardware store and have them cut to match your original keys
  2. Disconnect the battery
  3. Remove old PCM, install new PCM and reconnect the battery
  4. Insert new key and start the vehicle. Allow to run for 1 minute
  5. Repeat step 4 for the second key.
